So many people, including me, put their bedroom on the back burner. You think who else will see this room anyway?! We forget that we spend more time in our bedroom than any other space in the house. Recently we did a segment on our local news about not neglecting your bedroom and how to make it a sanctuary.
My nightly routine consist of getting my baby to sleep and spending most of the evening (or as much as I can) in my bedroom. This is where at the end of the day I have “me” time and wind down. Naturally you want this to be a relaxing place with surroundings you enjoy. So where do we start when creating your sanctuary?
I like to start with something of inspiration whether that be wallpaper, a piece of art, or a furniture piece aka your bed. Since it is a vocal point of the room. From there it is all about the layers you add to the room. It is always good to have a foundation like a rug to anchor the space. Then you layer with the window treatments, bedding, accent pillows, a chair/bench, art, and accessories. For an additional layer it is always great to change out your existing light fixture. I also like to mix and match new and existing pieces. Don’t feel like you have to start over and not incorporate older items in with the new. We love to mix and match. It doesn’t all have to be from the same collection to have a cohesive look.
As you can see below we have incorporated different styles (modern and traditional) of furniture and also different metals (golds and silvers). We chose neutral creams, grays, blues, greens, and metallic’s to keep a relaxing feel through the space. For more layering we added different textures and designs in pillows and accessories. And we couldn’t help but add a little fur in the mix!
